What's in a name?
Be honest, you heard the name Remix, and you were like, “Wait…what is the name?” That’s exactly what we want. Remix Church doesn’t sound like a church you’ve heard before, but there is so much more to our name.
Here are a few variables that led us to become Remix Church.
-Remix was a word that popped up as our leadership was seeking God’s will to plant a church. Our leaders read several books on multicultural churches that used remix in their title or chapters. It's a word that isn't usually applied to "church." We think that's good.
-We wanted a name that alluded to bringing people together. We could have gone with The Church of the Round Up, but that was taken (joking).
-Music is so important to the church. I mean, what is a remix? It’s using the foundation of a song we’ve been playing (church services) but then adding in new lyrics and music (culture).
-Remixes are a theme of the Scriptures. David said in Psalm 40:3, “He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the Lord.” This is David’s way of saying that his passion for God was made fresh. He had experienced God in a new way. Same God – new way. David didn’t have remix in his vocabulary, but he heart was writing a remix.
-Taking the name literally, it means to mix again. God created humankind to be united with one another and with God. We want to chase after that calling.
